HISTORY OF CHRIST’S COLLEGE

[Chinese]

Christ's College founded by Dr. James R. Graham Jr. in 1959.  In the late nineteenth century, Dr. Graham’s parents went to China as missionaries.  Dr. Graham grew up in china, and after college in America, felt the call to China as a missionary to the people he loved so deeply.

Dr. Graham was a strong believer in Christian education and saw the need for a college in Taiwan based on Christian foundations.  In 1952, Dr. Graham began itinerating across the United States and succeeded in founding the Free China Christian College Association and registered in the State of California in September 1959.  Therefore, he started Christ's College in 1959 as a standard, four- year Christian Liberal Arts College. And founded Taiwan Free China Foundation and registered in the Taipei County Government on September 18th, 1961.  In the spring of 1966, the Ministry of the Interior on Taiwan recognized Christ's College as a religious institution and registered in the school (#205648), thereby officially sanctioning the school.

We are affiliated with Coalition for Christian Colleges & Universities (CCCU) in February 1999.

Christ's College and Dallas Baptist University cooperate in M.A./MBA Program in 2000~2001 Academic Year.  Christ's College and Azusa Pacific University cooperate in M.A./TESOL Program in 2001~2002 Academic Year.  Christ's College and Regent University cooperate in M.A./Mass Communication Program in 2004~2005 Academic Year.

Christ's College submitted the application form and documentations to the Ministry of Education for registration on May 7, 2004.  The Ministry of Education agreed with the establishment of Christ's College of Humanities and Management on March 16, 2007.  Despite the lengthy and extensive effort, the final analysis indicates uncertainty of the ability to maintain the mission and values of Christ’s College as well as the lack of resources to meet the financial requirements of registration and operation, conditions the college could not prudently commit to.  With that in mind the decision was made by the Board of Christ’s College on March 29, 2008 to put on hold the transfer of assets from Christ’s College to Christ’s College of Humanities and Management, and took steps to begin exploration of all alternatives to register Christ’s College with the Ministry of Education. All options shall be evaluated by a special committee led by Chairlady, Ms Judia Chi, and the special committee formed in April 2008.  The special committee member studied for four months and gave report to the Board. The board discussed the issue and decided in 2009 November board meeting that Christ’s College apply registration with the Ministry of Education as a Christian Liberal Art college.

Christ's College accredited by Transnational Association of Christian Colleges and Schools (TRACS) in the United States, on April 4th, 2006.

Christ’s College is one of the founding members of The Commencement of the Alliance of Christian Colleges and Universities In Taiwan (TaiCUCA) on May 22, 2006.

Christ’s College joined the International Association for the Promotion of Christian Higher Education (IAPCHE) as member on May 2008.

We are as a constant reminder of what we stand for; on the wall of the chapel is the motto of the college written in both Chinese and English.  It states, “The Fear of the Lord is the Beginning of Wisdom”.  Christ's College is under the auspices of Presbyterian Church in America’s Mission to the World in 1977.

Since 1959, the school has graduated 5686 students. The campus of Christ's College is situated on a beautiful plateau commanding a view of the Tan-Shui River and the Goddess of Mercy mountain range.  It is an ideal environment for everyone to draw near to the Creator and prepare everyone to be useful vessel for Him.

The distinctive purpose of Christ's College is to provide a Christian Liberal Arts Education for the Chinese students.  At Christ's College, Bible is a required part of the curriculum and provides the essential starting point for the branches of study and for tall the vocations of the life.  The school constantly strives for improvement.  This year, Christ's College has an English Major, Music Major, Information Technology and Management Major, Administration Management Major and Mass Communication Major.  Our facilities are also being expanded.

Our goal is to build a strong Christian faith in the lives of our students and to provide a good academic foundation for them.  It is our desire to win our non-Christian students to Christ, then to disciple them and to send them out to be witness as in the Taiwan Church and community.  To do that, we need Christian teachers in English, music, computer science, administration and communication.

The Lord has been richly blessing Christ's College since its founding, and we look forward to the future with the hope that He will continue to sustain and establish Christ's College as prominent college of Liberal Arts for Christ, training and educating Chinese youth for society and for the church, for the glory of His Kingdom.
